The first week of my 9 month marathon training plan is over. Need new running shoes and a little tweaking so as to develop my leg strength for endurance running.
Based on the different sports I took part in during my high school days (athletics, field hockey, football/soccer, badminton and basketball) I feel the physical challenge of a marathon is something I can jump right into. The psychological challenge on the other hand will definitely be the tough part. The drive to keep running for 26 miles, the drive to train by repetition and the drive to simply keep going.
No doubt there will be a point during both the training and the marathon itself where I’ll want to stop training, stop running and quit (most likely due to psychological obstacles rather than physical). That’s when the hard part begins, to just keep going. The best advice I’ve heard so far comes from one Master Yoda:
“Try not. Do or do not. There is no try.”
